It can be tempting to choose who you show kindness to. It feels more comfortable to limit your kindness to those who are easy to love. But Jesus calls us to something greater—a kindness that reflects His heart.
In Matthew 18, Jesus tells the story of a king who forgave his servant a massive debt. Yet that same servant refused to forgive a small debt owed to him by another. The story reminds us that the kindness and forgiveness we receive from God are meant to transform our hearts and flow through us to others.
We are kind because He was first kind to us. As 1 John 4:19 says, "We love because He first loved us." The kindness we show isn’t about what others deserve; it’s about reflecting the unearned kindness we’ve received from God.
Today, let kindness flow freely, even to the difficult and the undeserving. When we clothe ourselves in kindness, we point others to the One who is infinitely kind to us.
